We’re thrilled with the news that North Somerset Council today voted 9:2 to consent the planning application for ‘Clevedon Central’. This is a multi-million pound scheme promoted by our clients Wessex Development & Investments and Fabrix London which will revitalise the tired retail centre of the town.
The proposals comprise the re-design and extension of the retail unit (a former Morrisons now occupied by B&M) as two large, modern retail units and a gym, a standalone cafĂ©, a residential unit for senior living and extensive infrastructure and landscaping works including improved access, pedestrian passages and road crossings to link the site to the town’s cultural quarter. The architectural design by LHC Design was inspired by the site’s rich history as a rail goods yard.
The project was first deliberated by this committee in June, when it was deferred to allow members newly emerging from the pandemic-driven lockdowns to gain greater knowledge about the site and relevant policies. Since then, we’ve worked tirelessly to inform stakeholders throughout the town and district to ensure they understand and welcome the scheme as a catalyst for Clevedon’s future.
Huge congratulations to our clients who have been rewarded for their collaborative approach, diligence and persistence!
