Mid Devon’s Local Plan Recommences Adoption Journey

It was great to hear that MDDC’s Cabinet voted 6:0 in favour of progressing its Local Plan through to Examination in Public, at a special meeting on Friday 9 February.

The purpose of the meeting had been to hear from Jenny Clifford, the Council’s Head of Planning, Economy and Regeneration, about the findings of a recent review of Mid Devon District Council’s Sustainability Appraisal Update 2017 (SA Update 2017). This review was considered necessary by Council to ensure its Plan met all legal requirements but had frustrated many members because it represented several months of delay in the progress of the Local Plan through the Inspection process, towards much-anticipated adoption.

With this vote, Cabinet agreed to commend to Full Council the SA Update as presented, a six-week public consultation on the same, and a request to the Inspector to resume his Inspection.

Full Council will meet on 21 February to discuss these recommendations.
