Niki has a rare ability to read the mood, and gain the trust, of a wide variety of people, enabling her to constantly adjust our communications strategy to pre-empt issues, convincingly state our position and even convert critics into advocates. She is a smart, creative, resourceful and pragmatic person; tough if needs be, yet invariably enthusiastic and fun to work with. In short, I recommend her without reservation.
Sir Tim Smit KBE, Executive Vice Chairman and Co-founder, the Eden Project
After learning her craft at PR and advertising agencies in London, New York and Sydney, Niki co-founded one of the most successful PR consultancies in the Australian IT&T industry. She was known for her ability to help senior executives at the likes of Sage, SAP and Sun Microsystems to develop, lead, resource and execute effective multi-national communications strategies. She also gained a reputation for the ability to translate complex technical texts into clear, concise, C’ level documents.
Now Tiverton-based, she develops and delivers brand positioning, PR and communications strategies for public, private and social enterprises.
As well as working on a broad range of project commissions, Niki holds the ongoing Communications Manager post for both land promoter Wessex Strategic, and Eden Westwood – the major tourism and leisure scheme proposed for M5 J27 for which we helped achieve Local Plan site allocation. For all her clients, she variously advises on strategy, liaises with political, business and community stakeholders, creates promotional materials, and organises and presents at events.
She is on the Board of Visit Devon, the deputy chair of REAL Devon and the former chair of Business Forum Mid Devon, and has been commissioned to deliver marketing and branding workshops for Devon County Council, Exeter Library, Business Information Point, DeVA and the Mid Devon Attractions Association.
Combined, these experiences have given her in-depth knowledge of South West regional dynamics and opportunities, plus extensive local authority, business and community contacts which can be drawn on to help clients get more ‘bang for buck’.
In 2004 she was headhunted to join Brunswick Group’s London office as a Director. Brunswick is an international critical issues and corporate relations consultancy with offices in 14 countries. During her time there she specialised in corporate reputation and corporate messaging and worked on various large communications projects for clients such as Unilever, National Grid, Prudential, Tesco and HOK architects.
In 2007 she left London and set up a freelance practice based in the South West. Since 2009 she has focused on property and planning communications, typically working as the communications specialist on development teams for mixed use retail, housing and regeneration schemes.
Lucie also runs large internal and external communications projects for BBA Aviation plc, a FTSE150 global aviation group, including writing and project managing the company’s Annual Report and its new corporate website.
Lucie formed Seaxburh Partners with Niki Lathwell in 2017 to create a focused corporate reputation and communications offer for developers and destination managers in the South West region.
Lucie’s creativity, coupled with her relentless focus on the goal, her ability to work effectively within a specific budget and her excellent project management skills makes her the most effective communications professional I have worked with in 35 years.
Simon Pryce, Group Chief Executive, BBA Aviation plc (2007 – June 2017)
